This weekend was the last weekend of my exchange program... so it was a really sad, but fun one!
On Friday, after school, Trini, Agnès and I went to Hout Bay Market. We bought some really delicious food, as there is plenty to choose from, and we looked at the souvenirs they sell there as well. We really realized that it's getting time to start saying goodbye to everything... The fact that we won't come there again very soon was really sad.
Then we decided to have diner at Hudson's, a local restaurant, with the three of us, and we talked about all the things we had experienced here and the many memories we had created together. We really became such a good friends, and it will be so weird not having them around all the time anymore when we're back home! It's sad that they live so far away, but we promised to meet each other again in the future.
The next day, me and Trini went to the Biscuit Mill, where we had some really nice breakfast and we wandered around for a while, and then took a taxi to Greenmarket Square, where we (again) bought lots of presents for our family and friends. The atmosphere was great there: lots of people played typical African music and they danced and sung while everyone was watching them, and the weather was also great, it all just really seemed to fit. It was such a nice afternoon. I'll definitely miss things like this!!
We were very tired when we came back home, but after we had some diner (together with Georgia Grobler) we went to a "get together" at someone's house, where we had a really nice evening together with some other friends. This was also meant as a sort of "goodbye", because it was the last weekend for all the exchanges.
Afterwards, Agnès and Trini came with me to my house for a sleepover. It was really fun, and we stayed up very late. The next day Diana, my host mom, made us some delicious breakfast, and after we discussed for a long time what we wanted to do on our last Sunday, Trini and I decided to go to the Waterfront. On our way there, Diana went past Bo-Kaap, the spiritual home of the Cape's Muslim community and known for its brightly coloured houses. Many of the Bo-Kaap residents are descendants of the slaves from Malaysia, Indonesia and Africa who were imported to the Cape of Good Hope by the Dutch, during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was such a lovely area, and the atmosphere was great there! I really think the bright colours of these houses bring such a nice vibe. Of course we got out of the car for a while, and took lots of pictures. Then we drove to the Waterfront, where we decided to watch a movie in the cinema. We just randomly picked a movie, but when we entered the cinema we noticed there were only old people! As soon as the movie started, we realized why. It was a beautiful story and the acting was really good, but it's definitely more for an older age group. (It was about alzheimer).
We then wandered around the Waterfront for a while, and we enjoyed our lovely last Sunday evening.
Although this weekend might not sound as exciting, it was really relaxed and I think it was a nice last weekend of my time here in South Africa. I'll definitely miss everything here so much, but I'm just going to enjoy my last few days here to the fullest, until I really have to say goodbye...
