Today the whole exchange group went on an outing, this time Miss Stein, the Exchange Co-ordinator at Herschel, planned a tour on the Hop on, Hop off bus. We left Herschel at 8.30 am and arrived at the V&A Waterfront, where we boarded the bus. You can't miss the bus, it is a red double decker open bus with the words CitySightSeeing written all over it. The bus stops at more than 30 locations and it was a great way to see the city. Highlight was a visit to the Castle of Good Hope which was built in the 17th century by the Dutch East India Company as a replenishment station. It was also built to protect the Dutch interests along the "spice route" and it is the oldest surviving building in South Africa. I was amazed to see the familiar (royal) Dutch names of the five bastions of the Castle: Orange, Nassau, Catzenellenbogen, Buuren en Leerdam. We also visited the very informative District 6 museum. We hopped off at Camps Bay, where we had lunch. We came back at Herschel around 2.30hrs and quickly changed back into our school uniform since many schools were going to attend the Walla Cup, or Mazinter, at the Newlands Pool. This is an annual event where the schools compete against each other in waterpolo. It was a great afternoon.
Hi, my name is Cemmie and I live in the Netherlands, but at the moment I'm staying in Cape Town, South Africa, as part of an exchange program. I'm really excited to tell you about everything I'm going to experience here, and to share all my stories with you. I hope you enjoy. Xx |
